2 men charged with assaulting, robbing pair after traffic accident

Jan. 05--Two Chicago men were ordered held in lieu of $90,000 bail Sunday after prosecutors said they assaulted and robbed the occupants of a vehicle they had just gotten into an accident with over the weekend.

Gabriel Galarza, 30, and Noel Reyes, 29, are both charged with robbery, attempted robbery and battery in the incident, which took place early Saturday in the 4300 block of West Wrightwood Avenue in the Belmont Gardens neighborhood, according to Cook County court records.

Galarza and Reyes were in a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe when they got into a traffic accident involving two men in another vehicle, according to court records.

The men in the other vehicle fled the scene, court records state.

When the defendants caught up with the vehicle, Galarza opened the door and punched the driver multiple times in the face and demanded his money, according to court records.

The victim handed over his wallet, which contained $1,005, court records state.

Reyes opened the passenger door and struck the other man as well, according to court records.

Galarza, of the 2400 block of North Springfield Avenue, and Reyes, of the 6200 block of South Bishop Street, were still at the scene when police arrived, according to court records.

They were identified by the victims and witnesses, according to court records.
