2 men charged with armed robberies and burglary of businesses in the NW suburbs

Alexzander Butchas and Johnathan Lopez, 22 and 19, were allegedly involved in several robberies and burglaries between June 12, 2019 and June 30, 2019.

Two men have been charged in connection with four armed robberies and burglaries in Bartlett and West Chicago.

Alexzander Butchas, 22, and Jonathan Lopez, 19, were each charged Tuesday with two counts of armed robbery and two counts of burglary, according to the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.

Police allege that Butchas, of Bartlett, and Lopez, of West Chicago, are responsible for the armed robberies of a KL liquors in Batavia on June 12, a 7-11 in Bartlett on June 14 and the Uno Discount Amigo Express in West Chicago on June 22. They also allegedly burglarized a Dunkin’ in West Chicago on June 30 and July 8.

In the instances of armed robbery, the pair entered the businesses armed with a baseball bat and a knife and demanded money from clerks before fleeing, the attorney’s office said. In the Dunkin’ burglaries, they are believed to have broken in twice with a crowbar and stole money from inside.

Butchas and Lopez appeared in Du Page County bond court where their bonds were set at $300,00 and $100,000 respectively, the attorney’s office said.

Their next court date is set for August 2.
