LOS ANGELES _ Two Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies were wounded by gunfire Wednesday evening during a deadly confrontation with four suspects at an East Los Angeles park, authorities said.
The shooting left one suspect dead and a second suspect injured. The injured suspect as well as the two deputies were taken to a hospital, said Nicole Nishida, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Department.
It's unclear what led to the firefight, which began about 6:30 p.m. at Ruben F. Salazar Park on Whittier Boulevard.
Deputy Armando Viera Jr. said that a third suspect was arrested at the scene and that deputies had set up a perimeter to search for a fourth suspect who remained at large.
Nishida said the wounded deputies were in stable condition but the extent of their injuries was not detailed. Sheriff's officials did not release the names of the wounded deputies.
The identity of the slain suspect was not released, and it's unclear what caused the injuries to the second suspect.
