Two people died in a wrong-way crash on the expressway Sunday in northwest Indiana.

Authorities received a call about 1:34 a.m. for a wrong-way driver in the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 at mile marker 247, Indiana State police said.

An investigation found a woman driving a 2015 Kia was northbound in the southbound lanes of I-65 when it struck a 2015 Chevrolet Corvette head on, state police said.

The male driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced dead on the scene, and the 21-year-old woman driving the Kia was pronounced at Franciscan Health Hospital.

The Lake County coroner’s office was dispatched to the same location about 2:19 a.m., according to a press release. A 20-year-old man from Indianapolis was pronounced dead within the hour.

The coroner’s office didn’t have information about the man’s injuries or the manner of his death. State police said his death was connected to the crash.

A male passenger in the Chevrolet was taken to Franciscan Health Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, state police said.

Police said they believed alcohol was a factor in the crash.
