2 killed, 1 wounded in separate shootings on Eisenhower Expressway in Chicago

CHICAGO _ Two men were killed and a woman was wounded in two shootings on the Eisenhower Expressway on the West Side of Chicago that occurred within six hours of each other, according to Illinois State Police.

Around noon, at least one person was wounded in a shooting in the inbound lanes of the Eisenhower at Central Avenue, according to state police Master Sgt. George Jimenez.

The man, a passenger in a vehicle, was taken to a local hospital by the driver, and later pronounced dead, state police said in a news release.

State police closed the ramp from the eastbound Eisenhower to Central Avenue for their investigation of the second shooting.

In the first shooting, shortly before 6 a.m., a man was killed and a woman wounded in the outbound lanes near Laramie Avenue, state police said.

A 22-year-old man was dead on arrival at Stroger Hospital and a 22-year-old woman was taken there in good condition, according to state police.

The man was the driver, police said.

State police shut down all outbound lanes of the expressway between California and Central avenues for hours to canvass the area for evidence.

The noon shooting is the 41st shooting on a Chicago-area expressway this year; in 2015, there were 30 shootings on area expressways, according to state police.
