Two people were arrested Saturday after fleeing police in a stolen vehicle and crashing in Burnside on the South Side.

About 11 p.m., officers in a marked squad car activated their lights, sirens and tried to pull over a 2016 Dodge Charger in the 8800 block of South Kenwood avenue after being flagged down by someone who said the people inside were firing shots at another vehicle, Chicago police said.

The Charger drove off at “a high rate of speed” and officers ended their pursuit, police said. It crashed into a tree and constructions signs before flipping over and coming to a stop in the 9200 block of South Greenwood Avenue.

Two men were pinned inside but emergency crews pulled them out, police said. They were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center for observation. Their conditions were stabilized.

The Charger had been reported stolen, and authorities found a handgun, an assault rifle and shell casings inside, police said.

Charges are pending as Area South detectives are investigating.
