Sun-Times file photo

Two men were shot Monday in Lawndale on the West Side.

They were standing in front of a store about 9 a.m. in the 3900 block of West Roosevelt Road when someone walked up and started shooting in their direction, according to Chicago police.

A 63-year-old man was shot in the lower left leg, police said. The other man, 31, was shot multiple times.

They were both taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they were stabilized, police said.

The gunman ran off after the shooting, but a 31-year-old man who was seen with him was taken into custody, police said. He was carrying a backpack with a loaded handgun inside, although the gun was not used in the shooting.

Police are questioning the man as Area North detectives continue to investigate.
