2 former Broncos jump from AAF back to NFL

Former Denver Broncos defensive lineman Shakir Soto has signed with the Dallas Cowboys after playing in the Alliance of American Football this spring, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Another former Bronco — offensive lineman Jeremiah Poutasi — also used the AAF as a springboard back to the NFL. Poutasi has signed with the Arizona Cardinals, according to Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.

Soto (6-3, 301 pounds) totaled 12 tackles (including four tackles for losses) and four sacks during his time with the San Diego Fleet. He signed with Denver as a college free agent out of Pittsburgh following the 2017 NFL draft. He spent part of his rookie season on the Broncos’ practice squad before a brief stint with the Oakland Raiders.

Poutasi (6-6, 329 pounds) also spent time on Denver’s practice squad in 2017 but failed to make the team’s roster in 2018. He played for the Salt Lake City Stallions in the AAF.

Soto and Poutasi are the only ex-Broncos that have gone from the AAF back to the NFL (so far). Other former Broncos that played in the AAF include safety Rahim Moore and linebacker Steven Johnson.
