Two firefighters were injured while battling a fire in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

At 8:09, crews responded to a fire in the first block of South Albany Avenue, according to Chicago Fire Department Spokesman Larry Langford.

The firefighters were taken to Stroger Hospital, he said.

At a media briefing Sunday at the hospital, First Deputy Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt said the firefighters were on the third floor when they fell. One was able to get himself out of the building, and the other needed assistance getting to the ambulance. She described the fire as “routine.”

In January, a firefighter was injured battling a blaze at a construction site in the Loop.
