Two men face felony murder charges in connection to a failed carjacking Sunday in Dolton that left a 73-year-old man dead in the south suburb.

Treyante Maxwell, 19, and David Johnson, 18, allegedly tried to carjack a man about 8 a.m. in the 14600 block of Lakeside Avenue, according to a statement from Dolton Police Chief Ernest Mobley.

Someone fired shots during the attempt and struck 73-year-old Carl Kosmos in the chest, Mobley said. Kosmos died during surgery at the University of Chicago Medical Center, according Mobley and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. His death was ruled a homicide.

Maxwell and Johnson were later arrested and charged with felony murder and attempted aggravated vehicular hijacking, Mobley said.

Court information was not immediately available.
