Oct. 27--Two men were killed Monday in a shooting at a Bolingbrook industrial park, authorities said.
Bolingbrook police were called at 9:39 a.m. with a report of a shooting at YCB International, an auto supply importer, in the 600 block of Veterans Parkway, said Lt. Carter Larry, a police spokesman.
Larry said three employees were in the business at the time of the shooting. Two were not injured.
The Will County coroner hotline said Xinling Zhang, 39, of Naperville, suffered multiple gunshots and was pronounced dead at 12:20 p.m. Degang Zhang, 48, of Aurora, suffered a single gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at noon, the coroner hotline said. Larry said Degang Zhang fired the gun used in the incident. The gun was recovered, and there was no threat to the public, Larry said..
Both men died at the scene, and autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday, the coroner said.
Four Bolingbrook schools were on soft lockdown for a short time because of the incident, the Valley View School District 365U website said.
The schools affected were Bolingbrook High School, Jane Addams Middle School, Independence Elementary School and Oak View Elementary School. Bolingbrook High School is about a half-mile east of where the shooting took place.
A soft lockdown meant staff and students in the buildings were following procedures designed to maintain a safe school environment. All doors were locked, and no one was allowed to enter or leave the buildings.
"We work with the Bolingbrook police and have a plan in place for something like this," said Larry Randa, community relations director for Valley View School District. "We have the district divided into regions," and when one school is locked down, the others in its region are also secured, he said.
Bolingbrook police notified local businesses and advised them to lock down as well, Randa said. Elaine Hendricks, 48, of Ottawa, works at Adventist Midwest Management Services and said she received an email from her company advising employees to stay at their desks.
"A lot went through my mind. This was a little too close to home," Hendricks said. "You don't know if (the shooter) is coming to your building next or what's going on."
Hendricks said the lockdown was lifted a short time later, and she and a co-worker took their routine midday walk around the office and warehouse complex a little later than usual.
