Aug. 24--Two people were killed and six others were wounded, including a 15-year-old boy, in shootings since Sunday morning, according to police.
A 30-year-old man died at Stroger Hospital after being shot at 8:40 p.m. Sunday in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, according to Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman.
He was found in the 2400 block of West 58th Street, where he had been shot in the shoulder, groin and abdomen, Alfaro said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Police originally said the man was in his 20s.
Police found about 30 shell casings at the scene, which may have come from three different guns, authorities said.
A 42-year-old man was shot dead while he was driving in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side just before the Gage Park shooting, said Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago police spokesman.
He was in the 1000 block of North Lamon Avenue about 8:35 p.m. when someone fired at him, Zala said. He was struck, crashed into a parked car and died in the driver's seat, police said.
--A 29-year-old man was shot at 12:05 a.m. Monday in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side, said Officer Amina Greer, a Chicago police spokeswoman. He was in the 700 block of South Campbell Avenue trying to break up a fight between his sister and another person when that person's boyfriend shot him, according to authorities. Greer said the man was grazed in the calf and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized.
--Three men were shot at 10:50 p.m. Sunday in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, Alfaro said. They were on a porch in the 6900 block of South Winchester Avenue when they heard shots and felt pain, Alfaro said.
A 22-year-old man was hit in the right hand and taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park; a 25-year-old man was struck in the right hip and taken to Stroger Hospital; and a 26-year-old man was hit in the neck and back and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The conditions of all three men had been stabilized.
--A 15-year-old boy was shot at 5:12 p.m. Sunday in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a police spokeswoman. The teen was in the 6700 block of South Artesian Avenue when he was shot in the groin. He was taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition had stabilized.
--The first shooting Sunday was at 11:19 a.m. in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
A 24-year-old man was shot in the back and suffered a graze wound to his face in the 6100 block of South Rockwell Street, Trainor said. The man, who was not being cooperative with police, was taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition had stabilized, she said.
According to preliminary information, the man was on the street when a silver vehicle being driven by a female drove up to the location of the shooting. A male got out of the vehicle and began firing, striking the victim, Trainor said.
The man then returned to the vehicle, which then drove off, police said.
