Sept. 14--Two men were shot to death and at least 15 other people, including a boy, have been wounded in separate shootings on the North, South and Far Southeast sides since Sunday afternoon, Chicago police said.
A 36-year-old man was fatally shot around 9:13 p.m. Sunday near his home in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side, said Chicago Police Department spokesman Officer Ron Gaines.
The man, identified by family members as Ashton Simpson, was inside his home in the 8300 block of South Wood Street when he heard gunshots outside. He came outside to investigate and was shot, police said.
Simpson was struck in the face, chest and arm, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Less than a mile away, in the same neighborhood, a 19-year-old man was pronounced dead after being shot in the 8400 block of South Loomis Boulevard around 6:53 p.m., police said.
The man was shot in the back and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition but later died, police said.
No one was in custody as a result of the shootings early Monday morning.
Most recently, a 21-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man were wounded in a shooting around 1:28 a.m. Monday in the Brainerd neighborhood on the South Side, Gaines said.
The two were with a group of friends in the 700 block of West 93rd Street when someone fired shots from a passing vehicle, Gaines said.
The woman was shot in the foot, and the man was hit in the leg. Both were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where their conditions stabilized, Gaines said.
About 10:40 p.m. Sunday, a 29-year-old man was critically hurt during a shooting in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side, Gaines said.
The man was inside a resident in the 800 block of East Bowen Avenue when he started arguing with a person he knew. That person then pulled out a gun and fired shots, Gaines said.
The man was struck in the head and was taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
About 10:20 p.m., three men were wounded in a shooting in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood, Gaines said.
The group was walking on a sidewalk in the 4200 block of West Augusta Boulevard when someone fired shots from a passing white SUV, Gaines said.
A 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old man were both shot in the leg. Both were taken to Stroger Hospital where their conditions stabilized, Gaines said.
A 22-year-old man was grazed in the foot and was taken to Norwegian American Hospital where his condition also stabilized, Gaines said.
About 10 p.m., a 23-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man were wounded in a shooting in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, Gaines said.
The two were outside on the front porch of a home in the 5600 block of South May Street when a white sedan pulled up. A gunman stepped out of the sedan and fired shots, Gaines said.
The woman was struck in the left calf, and the man was shot in the wrist, Gaines said.
Both were taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center where their conditions stabilized.
At 7:56 p.m. a 22-year-old man was hospitalized after being shot in the 9900 block of South Normal Avenue in the Fernwood neighborhood, police said.
The man was shot in the left hand and was taken to an area hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.
At 5:08 p.m. a 23-year-old man was injured in what police believe was a domestic situation in the 8800 block of South Racine Avenue in the Gresham neighborhood, police said.
The man was shot in the left hip and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where his condition had stabilized, police said. Police had a person of interest in custody and a weapon was recovered, police said.
At 5 p.m. a 17-year-old girl was shot in the 6100 block of South Honore Street in the West Englewood neighborhood, police said. The woman was involved in a dispute with another female when friends of the other woman arrived on bicycle and one of them shot the victim in the abdomen, police said. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital, where her condition had stabilized.
Also at 5 p.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in the 8900 block of South Union Avenue in the Gresham neighborhood, police said. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital with a gunshot wound to his right leg but his condition was not immediately available, police said.
According to preliminary information, a 15-year-old boy was in the 6100 block of South Vernon Avenue in the West Woodlawn neighborhood when he was shot, police said.
The teen, who police said was a gang member, was shot at 4:15 p.m. in the right shoulder and was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.
Earlier, an 18-year-old man was shot at 12:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of West Ainslie Street in the Uptown neighborhood, police said. The man was hit several times in the right torso and leg, police said. He managed to get himself to Weiss Memorial Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.
In an earlier shooting, an 18-year-old man was shot in the 400 block of East 134th Street in the Eden Green neighborhood on the Far Southeast Side, police said.
He was shot in the thigh and buttocks and managed to get himself to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in south suburban Harvey, where he was in good condition, police said.
