June 22--Two men were killed and at least 16 other people have been wounded during separate shootings across the city since Saturday afternoon, police said.
Around 11:20 p.m. Saturday, an 18-year-old man was shot to death in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side, police said. The man was walking with another man in the 4200 block of West Division Street when an attacker approached him and fired shots, police said.
The man was struck in the chest and was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. He has not yet been officially identified.
Earlier, around noon, a 21-year-old man, identified as James Jones, was killed and his mother was critically wounded in a shooting in the South Chicago neighborhood on the Far South Side, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Police responded to a call of shots fired in the 8400 block of South Colfax Avenue and found the man dead and a 46-year-old woman wounded, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a spokeswoman for the Chicago Police Department.
Jones, of the same block where the shooting occurred, was pronounced dead at 12:30 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office.
The two were outside when a person came out of a gangway and began firing, striking them both. The woman was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center, Sedevic said.
Police said the shooting was gang-related but did not elaborate.
Preliminary information from a police source and from family indicated that the woman is the dead man's mother. Family members said that James Jones had died while trying to shield his mother from the gunfire.

--A 32-year-old man was wounded in a shooting around 4:20 a.m. Sunday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, said Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman. The man was in the 4500 block of West Washington Boulevard when he heard gunshots and realized he was struck in the foot, Estrada said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
--Around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, a 44-year-old woman was seriously hurt in a shooting in the McKinley Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, said Officer Ron Gaines, a police spokesman. The woman was sitting on a porch, talking to a friend, in the 3800 block of South Honore Street when someone the woman knew fired gunshots, Gaines said. The woman was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, Gaines said.
--Around 1:40 a.m. Sunday, a 33-year-old man walked into Presence Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center after being shot in the Logan Square neighborhood on the Northwest Side, Gaines said. The man was walking near the intersection of Fullerton Avenue and Pulaski Road when he heard gunshots and realized he was struck, Gaines said. The man was shot in both ankles and was listed in a good condition at the hospital.
--Around 1:35 a.m. Sunday, a 35-year-old man walked into St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center after being shot in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side, Gaines said. The man was in the 7700 block of South Racine Avenue when he was shot in the abdomen, Gaines said. He was listed in serious condition at St. Bernard.
--Around 1:25 a.m. Sunday, a 29-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the Palmer Square neighborhood on the Northwest Side, Gaines said. The man was outside in the 3000 block of West Armitage Avenue when he was shot in the calf, Gaines said. The man was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition, Gaines said.
--Around 10:45 p.m. Saturday, a 24-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the South Shore neighborhood on the Far South Side, Gaines said. The man was walking in the 2700 block of East 76th Place when two male attackers approached him and fired shots, striking him in the neck area, Gaines said. The man was taken in good condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Gaines said.
--Around 9:50 p.m. Saturday, a 35-year-old woman was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side, police said. The woman was walking in the 1200 block of North Maplewood Avenue when she was struck by stray bullet fired from a passing vehicle after several people nearby started arguing, police said, citing preliminary information. The woman was taken in good condition to Sts. Mary and Elizabeth hospital, police said.
--At 6:30 p.m. Saturday, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg on the 2600 block of West Division Street in the Humboldt Park neighborhood and managed to get himself to Norwegian American Hospital, police said. The boy was in good condition. Police said the shooting appeared to be gang-related.
--At 5:27 p.m. Saturday, a 17-year-old boy was shot on the 4500 block of South Francisco Avenue in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, police said. The teen was shot in the head and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.
--At 5:22 p.m. Saturday, two men were on the 3500 block of West McLean Avenue in the Logan Square neighborhood when a vehicle drove up to them and someone began firing, police said. A 27-year-old man was shot in the leg and taken to Sts. Mary and Elizabeth hospital in good condition, and a 34-year-old man was shot in the chest and hip and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, police said.
--At 3:30 p.m. Saturday, a 23-year-old man was shot in the right knee in the 3100 block of West Belden Avenue in Palmer Square, police said. The 23-year-old told police he was standing on a sidewalk when an unknown male approached on foot and fired shots at him before entering a vehicle and fleeing in it, police said. The man declined medical attention at the scene and the incident is gang-related, police said.
--A 21-year-old man was shot about 3 p.m. Saturday in the 2200 block of North Karlov Avenue in the Hermosa neighborhood on the Northwest Side. The man was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was stabilized.
--About 3 p.m. Saturday, a 34-year-old man was shot in the leg in the city's Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side. The shooting happened on the 5000 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, Sedevic said. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, she said.
--A 27-year-old man was shot about 2 p.m. Saturday in the 6500 block of South Justine Street in the city's Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, police said. The man was shot in the arm and back and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.
