LUDHIANA: Two days after a hardware trader from Sector 20 of Panchkula, Haryana, allegedly ended his life at a five-star hotel on Ferozepur Road here, police on Sunday booked 14 people for abetment to suicide. The action was taken on the basis of a suicide note left by Manish Sanghi, 35.
Sanghi's wife Sonika Goyal said her husband used to supply pipes. On February 21, he had gone to Amritsar for work. He was to proceed to Ludhiana and return home on February 25, she said. "On February 25, Manish consumed poison as the accused did not return crores of rupees to him," she alleged.
Sarabha Nagar SHO sub-inspector Jaskanwal Singh Sekhon said Sanghi had checked into the hotel on February 24. The next day, when did not come out, the housekeeping staff rang the doorbell several times. A staffer used a master key to open the room and found Manish lying unconscious, the SHO said.
"The hotel staff took him to a nearby hospital. Doctors suspected he had a cardiac arrest. They called the police. We reached the hotel room, from where a suicide note and two brown coloured pills were recovered, which Manish supposedly consumed to end his life. In the suicide note, he has mentioned names of the persons who were not returning his money. The amount runs into crores," the SHO said.
A case under sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 34 (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC was registered against accused Arinder Singh and his wife Natasha of Gurugram; Rajesh and Ram of Delhi, Bominani Raman and his son of Andhra Pradesh; Rajesh Dhaga, Narendra Ghulati, Sandeep Deewan of Yamunanagar; Kamal Sisodia, Ranjeev Sanghi, Shalini Sanghi, Akash Sanghi and Umang Sanghi.
