MUMBAI: The state on Sunday reported only two Covid-19 deaths over a period of 24hours, making it the lowest daily tally to be seen after the early days of the pandemic in March 2020. Mumbai, for the third day in a row, and the eighth instance in February didn't record a single death due to coronavirus.
The slide in detection of new cases continued for the state. Maharashtra reported 782 fresh Covid cases, the third consecutive day of reporting less than 1000 cases in a day. The state's cumulative tally inched to 78,65,298. Two deaths from Navi Mumbai and Solapur took the state's overall toll to 1,43,697. The last time the state reported two deaths in a day was on March 28, 2020.
On Sunday, Mumbai reported 103 new cases, taking the case tally for the city to 1,05,5481. Mumbai had seen the first ‘zero Covid death day’ in October 2021 and then on several occasions in December. But this month, there were several back-to-back days when the city didn’t report any casualty. Hospitalisations also dropped to merely 16 on Sunday. Four jumbo centres at Goregaon, Mulund, Dahisar and Kanjurmarg will stop admitting operations from Monday.
