CHENNAI: Three days after the death of V Vignesh, 25, in police custody, sub-inspector Pugazhum Perumal, policeman Ponraj and home guard Deepak attached to the Secretariat Colony police station were placed under suspension. Director general of police C Sylendra Babu also transferred the case to the CB-CID.
Vignesh had been picked up by a police team near Kelly’s and detained at the station on charges of possessing ganja and a knife. The transfer and suspension move came hours after the allegation of police personnel attempting to bribe the family of the victim went viral on social media.
Meanwhile, Kilpauk deputy commissioner of police Dr K Karthikeyan informed the state human rights commission and the national human rights commission about the custodial death of Vignesh.
Vignesh’s body, handed over to his brother Vinod, was buried at the Krishnampet burial ground in Ice House on Wednesday.
Earlier, a team of doctors conducted the postmortem which was supervised by magistrate Yashwant Rao.
