Dec. 31--Two boys were arrested and charged early Wednesday morning with several felony counts in connection with a string of robberies on the North and Northwest sides that happened over the past week and a half.
The two 17-year-old boys, whose names were not released because they are juveniles, were charged with eight felony counts of aggravated armed robbery and a felony count of aggravated possession of a stolen motor vehicle, according to release from the Chicago Police Department.
The two teens are the same ones involved in the string of robberies in the days before Christmas on the North and Northwest Sides, according to police.
Police said officers spotted a white Jeep that was used in the robberies on the Kennedy Expressway near Ohio Street at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday.
The same Jeep was later found on the 4900 block of South Prairie Avenue in the Bronzeville neighborhood. Officers started to pursue the suspects, and after a high-speed chase, the two teenagers were arrested in the 5600 block of South Calumet Avenue at about 1:05 a.m., according to police.
The eight robberies the teens are accused of happened between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. on Dec. 22 and Dec. 23 in the Irving Park, North Park, Albany Park, West Rogers Park and Ravenswood neighborhoods, according to an alert from the police.
The incidents all happened in the same way, with the victims walking on sidewalks in alleys or on the street being confronted by the two males, with at least one brandishing a handgun and demanding their property after jumping out of a vehicle.
Officials still do not know what items they took.
The investigation is ongoing.
