2 Cardinals have 3 of NFL’s top 45 single-game passing performances

The NFL is a passing league now. Kurt Warner, when he was with the Arizona Cardinals, put up some big numbers. In fact, in a look at the NFL’s top 45 single-game passing performances on Touchdown Wire by Barry Werner, Warner shows up twice.

Warner’s 472 passing yards in 2008 against the New York Jets tie him for No. 43. He completed 40-of-57 passes in that game in a 56-35 loss that Cardinals fans will remember for the brutal hit receiver Anquan Bolden took in the end zone.

Warner also is No. 32 on the list.

In a 37-31 overtime loss to the San Francisco 49ers in 2007, Warner threw for 484 passing yards on 34-of-48 passing.

But Warner is not the team record holder for passing yards in a game. That record belongs to Boomer Esiason, who threw for 522 yards in a 37-34 win over the Washington Redskins in 1996. He threw three touchdown passes and four interceptions in that game.

That performance is No. 4 in league history, tied with Ben Roethlisberger.
