April 02--Two brothers are charged with intimidating two police officers this week in a case involving a third brother at the Cook County courthouse on Chicago's Southwest Side, authorities said.
Perry Brunt, 27, and his brother Perrin Brunt, 25, who both live in Humboldt Park, were at the Leighton Criminal Court Building on Monday, attending a court hearing for their brother, Pierre, who's facing heroin possession charges, prosecutors said. Pierre Brunt, 28, is a self-identified gang member and a registered sex offender, according to a Chicago police arrest report.
It wasn't immediately clear which police department the officers worked for, but both testified at the Monday court hearing.
At one point, Perrin Brunt saw the two police officers in the courthouse and said, "There go those two white (expletives)" according to the police report.
The officers then left the courthouse and saw the brothers standing at a nearby food truck, prosecutors said, where Perrin told them, "You best not remember (anything) next time you here." One officer responded by asking if there was a problem, at which point Perrin said, "We gonna have a problem if you keep showing up in court," according to the police report.
One officer then got into his personal vehicle and was driving north on California Avenue when a white Buick swerved to cut him off, forcing him to slam on the brakes, the police report states. The officer alerted other police officers, who stopped the Buick in the 700 block of South Sacramento Avenue and found Perry and Perrin Brunt in the car.
When the officers asked if they knew they were suspected of intimidating a police officer, one brother said, "They're CPD, they're not supposed to be intimidated," according to prosecutors.
The two brothers live with their grandmother in the 1000 block of North St. Louis Avenue, according to court records, and each has a neck tattoo saying, "money (excrement) no funny (excrement)," according to their arrest reports.
Perry Brunt and Perrin Brunt were arrested and charged with aggravated intimidation of a peace officer, a felony. Judge Donald J. Panarese ordered each of them held in lieu of $250,000 bond.
