An officer accidentally fired their gun and two people were arrested after running from a traffic stop Friday in Roseland on the South Side, police said.

About 12:45 a.m., officers tried to stop an Audi SUV in the 11100 block of South Emerald Avenue that was reported stolen from south suburban Blue Island, Chicago police said.

As the officers were exiting their vehicle, one of them accidentally discharged a round, police said. The people in the Audi fled on foot but were taken into custody after a brief pursuit.

Two males were arrested, and a weapon was recovered, police said. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Area South detectives are investigating.
