Two people were arrested Sunday after they opened fire towards police officers in Lawndale on the West Side.

Officers in a marked squad car were stopped at a stop sign about 3:24 a.m. in the 1800 block of South Kostner Avenue when someone in a black Nissan sedan fired shots in their direction, Chicago police said.

The vehicle was stopped a block south, and a female and male were taken into custody, police said. A weapon was recovered.

No officers were injured in the incident, police said.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
