Jan. 11--Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies found a cat with its legs taped together this weekend while arresting two people in Canyon Country during a narcotics investigation.
The discovery came when deputies approached a vehicle occupied by a man and a woman near Soledad Canyon and Sand Canyon roads shortly after 11:30 p.m. Saturday and spotted a jar of syringes inside, sheriff's Lt. Brenda Cambra said.
While searching the car, deputies found a substance believed to be heroin, as well as a cat stuffed upside-down in an animal carrier, Cambra said. The cat's front and rear legs were each tied together with electrical tape, sheriff's officials said.

"The helpless cat could not move and was 'meowing loudly in discomfort,'" according to a statement from the Sheriff's Department.
The man, 23, and woman, 26, were arrested and booked on suspicion of animal cruelty. The man was also booked on suspicion of narcotics possession, Cambra said.
The man is being held in lieu of $30,000 bail and the woman is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail. Their identities were not released because of the ongoing drug investigation, Cambra said.
The cat was placed in the care of L.A. County's Department of Animal Care and Control.
