Michael Taylor, a 60-year-old former U.S. Green Beret, and his son, Peter, 28, who had been indicted for allegedly helping former Nissan Motor Co. Chairman Carlos Ghosn's escape from Japan to Lebanon, pleaded guilty to the charge in their first trial at the Tokyo District Court on Monday.
Ghosn, 67, has been indicted for charges including the violation of the Companies Law.
According to the indictment, the two Americans conspired with George-Antoine Zayek, 61, another American, to take and guard Ghosn from Tokyo to a hotel in Osaka Prefecture on Dec. 29, 2019, while he was out on bail. Then they helped Ghosn, hidden in a box, flee Japan on a private jet from Kansai Airport in Osaka Prefecture
Zayek has been served an arrest warrant for concealing a criminal.
The Taylors were arrested in the United States in May last year at the request of the Japanese government under the bilateral extradition treaty. They were extradited to Japan in March.
