NEW DELHI: India logged 2.71 lakh new Covid cases, marginally higher than yesterday, while the active cases rose to 15,50,377 according to the Union health ministry data updated on Sunday.
7,743 cases of Omicron variant have reported across 28 states and union territories.
Maharashtra, one of the worst-hit states by the Covid pandemic, recorded 42,462 new coronavirus infections, 749 less than the day before, besides 23 deaths.
The death toll climbed to 4,86,066 with 314 fresh fatalities according to the data updated at 9 am.
The active cases now comprise 4.18 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has decreased to 94.51 per cent.
An increase of 1,32,557 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours, according to the health ministry data updated this morning.
The daily positivity rate saw a marginal improvement from 16.66 per cent to 16.28 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 13.69 per cent.
The testing capacity across the country continues to be expanded. The last 24 hours saw a total of 16,65,404 tests being conducted. India has so far conducted over 70.24 crore (70,24,48,838) cumulative tests.
Meanwhile more than 158 crore (1,58,01,46,015) vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through Govt. of India (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category; and more than 14.13 crore (14,13,44,641) balance and unutilized Covid Vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered.
Moreover, with the administration of more than 66 lakh Doses (66,21,395) vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 156.76 crore (1,56,76,15,454) as per provisional reports till 7 am today. This has been achieved through 1,68,19,744 sessions.
