2,354 new Covid cases, 16 more deaths

The country registered 16 more Covid-19 fatalities and 2,354 new cases during the previous 24 hours, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced on Friday.

Thursday’s figures did not include 4,814 positive results from antigen tests. This would raise the total to 7,168.

This compared with the 14 coronavirus-related fatalities and 2,695 new cases reported on the previous day.

As of Thursday, a total of 24,115 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (up from 23,931 on the previous day), including 10,415 in hospitals (down from 10,587). Among the remainder, 1,241 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (up from 1,216) and 12,431 in home/community isolation (up from 12,099).

Of those in hospital, 690 were seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (up from 684) and 286 dependent on ventilators (down from 290).

The 24-hour period also saw 2,154 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

The 16 people who died were aged from 51 to 102 years.

Bangkok logged two new deaths and there were three new fatalities in the adjacent provinces of Samut Prakan (2) and Pathum Thani (1).

Other central plains provinces further from the capital had five new deaths - two in Ratchaburi and one each in Uthai Thani, Lop Buri and Chon Buri.

The North reported four deaths in Chiang Mai (2), Kamphaeng Phet (1) and Phrae (1).

The Northeast saw two new fatalities in Nakhon Ratchasima and Kalasin.

The South had no new deaths.

Among 2,354 new cases over the past 24 hours, there were 2,350 cases in the general population and four imported cases.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,525,269 Covid-19 cases, including 2,301,834 this year, with 4,470,490 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 30,664 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 8,966 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 727,179 in 24 hours to 552.61 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,405 to 6.36 million.

The United States had the most cases at 89.36 million, up 85,976, and the most deaths at 1.04 million, up 228.
