2,062 new Covid inpatients, 28 more deaths

There were 28 more Covid-19 fatalities and 2,062 new patients admitted to hospitals on Tuesday, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Wednesday.

This compared with 26 coronavirus-related fatalities and 1,488 patients on Monday, as reported on Tuesday.

As of midnight Tuesday, a total of 17,831 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (down from 17,897 the previous day), including 785 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (down from 839) and 386 dependent on ventilators (down from 427).

The 24-hour period also saw 2,100 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

Of the 2,062 new inpatients, 2,027 cases were in the general population and 35 among prison inmates.

As of Wednesday the daily averages over a 14-day period were - 1,966 new patients, down from 2,142 as of Aug 11 figures; 785 seriously ill patients, down from 919; 386 dependent on ventilators, down from 463;  and 30 coronavirus-related daths, down from 31.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,639,261 Covid-19 cases, including 2,415,826 this year, with 4,589,321 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 32,109 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 10,411 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 700,610 in 24 hours to 602.39 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,830 to 6.48 million.

The United States had the most cases at 95.54 million, up 53,456, and the most deaths at 1.07 million, up 294.
