2,046 new Covid inpatients, 24 more deaths

There were 24 more Covid-19 fatalities and 2,046 new patients admitted to hospitals on Thursday, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Friday.

This compared with 25 coronavirus-related fatalities and 2,004 patients on Wednesday, as reported on Thursday.

As of midnight Thursday, a total of 16,447 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (up from 15,990 the previous day), including 8,493 in hospitals (down from 8,557). Of the remainder, 140 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (down from 145) and 7,751 in home/community isolation (up from 7,232).

Of those in hospitals, 729 were seriously ill with lung inflammation (down from 736) and 367 dependent on ventilators (up from 355).

As of Friday the daily averages over a 14-day period were - 1,761 new patients, down from 2,061 as of Aug 20 figures; 729 seriously ill patients, down from 873; 367 dependent on ventilators, down from 441; and 27 coronavirus-related deaths, down from 31.

The 24-hour period also saw 1,565 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

Among the 2,046 new inpatients over the past 24 hours, there were 2,043 cases in the general population and three among prison inmates.

The 24 people who died over the past 24 hours were aged from 10 to 94 years.

Bangkok logged five new deaths and there were two new fatalities in the adjacent provinces of Pathum Thani and Nakhon Pathom.

Other central plains provinces further from the capital had nine new deaths - two each in Chon Buri, Nakhon Nayok and Phetchaburi and one each in Kanchanaburi, Ayutthaya and Sing Buri.

The North reported no new deaths.

The Northeast had three - in Loei, Nong Bua Lam Phu and Ubon Ratchathani.

The South reported five covid deaths - two in Krabi and one each in Songkhla, Pattani and Satun.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,654,969 Covid-19 cases, including 2,431,534 this year, with 4,606,170 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 32,352 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 10,654 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 590,784 in 24 hours to 608.70 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,751 to 6.50 million.

The United States had the most cases at 96.46 million, up 65,815, and the most deaths at 1.07 million, up 272.
