Construction of the first 1.3-kilometre section of Thailand's border fence with Cambodia in Chanthaburi is 45% complete, a parliamentary delegation has been told.
Monthien Songpracha, a chair of the House Committee on National Security, Border Affairs, National Strategy, and National Reform, said on Sunday his team inspected the site in Pong Nam Ron district on Saturday.
Naval Task Force Chanthaburi commander Capt Pratchaya Hanthiam briefed the committee that the wall is being constructed close to the agreed boundary line, with prior notification to Cambodian counterparts to prevent misunderstandings.
He said all procedures follow international legal frameworks and Cambodia had been invited to observe and verify the work.
The first phase covers a 1.3-kilometre stretch between boundary markers 52 and 54, an area previously agreed through the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC).
The project is funded through the Hathaithip Fund under the Princess Chulabhorn Foundation and implemented by the Army Development Command, with work 45% complete.
"The structure consists of a 1.95-metre concrete wall, reaching a total height of 4.3 metres when combined with additional security features, including barbed wire installed along the top," he said.
Capt Pratchaya said Cambodian-built infrastructure lies around three metres from the Thai-side fence.
The committee also examined the second phase, spanning around seven kilometres between markers 54 and 59, where preliminary work is underway.
