The first domestic chartered flights using the HondaJet Elite light business jet could start in March.
As passengers have less contact with other people at the airport when taking a chartered flight, it is easier to implement measures to prevent novel coronavirus infections.
Up to five passengers can be accommodated on the HondaJet Elite.
Wealthy people are expected to be the main users of the service, in addition to corporate managers and other such officials at companies.
JAL Business Aviation Co., a joint venture of Japan Airlines Co. and Marubeni Corp., will start accepting reservations before the end of this month.
As an example, renting the aircraft for two or three days for the three-hour round trip between Haneda Airport in Tokyo and New Chitose Airport near Sapporo, is expected to cost around 2 million yen to 3 million yen.
Major domestic airports have dedicated aprons and boarding gates for charter services. Chartered flight passengers can also travel between airports where there are no direct connections.
Honda Aircraft Co. is the Honda Motor Co. subsidiary in the United States that builds the HondaJet. In Japan, the HondaJet was first offered for purchase in 2018. The purchase price for the aircraft with standard equipment is around 800 million yen.
