1am street fight between two women leaves one in hospital with knife wounds

A 1am fight in a street between two women left one in hospital with knife wounds, police have revealed.

A 35-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

Greater Manchester Police said today she remained in custody for questioning.

The injured woman, who is 39, was subsequently released from hospital.

Police said she suffered injuries to her head and hand on Canada Street, near Miles Platting in Manchester.

Officers were called to reports of a disturbance on the street at 1am on Saturday.

Detectives said an 'altercation quickly turned violent' and have now issued a public appeal for witnesses.

Investigations are continuing.

Both women haven't been named.

In a statement, GMP said: "Shortly before 1am this morning, officers were called to reports of a disturbance on Canada Street, Manchester.

"Officers attended and established there had been a fight involving two women - one of which was wielding a knife.

"A 39-year-old woman was taken to hospital with injuries to her head and hand. She has since been discharged.

"A 35-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault.

"She remains in custody for questioning."

Detective Inspector Louise Edwards said: "This was an altercation that quickly turned violent and resulted in a woman being taken to hospital for treatment.

"This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable, and although we currently have a woman in custody, our investigation remains very much ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this assault.

"If anyone witnessed this fight, or has any information that could help police to complete their enquiries, then please do not hesitate to get in touch."
