19yo charged over alleged hit-and-run that left woman, 75, in critical condition

A teenager will remain behind bars until at least February after an alleged hit-and-run left a 75-year-old woman in a critical condition in hospital in Mackay.

The alleged incident occurred about 6:30am on Sunday at Mount Pleasant and the woman, who was in a vehicle, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The court heard 19-year-old Lazarus Paul Seden was on a return-to-prison warrant and allegedly driving a stolen Toyota LandCruiser without a license at the time.

The alleged hit-and-run was followed by a police pursuit on the Bruce Highway, where the stolen Izuzu MU-X Mr Seden was allegedly driving collided with another vehicle about 2pm.

Two more people, a 70-year-old man and 68-year-old woman were taken to hospital in stable conditions.

Mr Seden was arrested at the scene.

Teen facing 10 charges

This morning Lazarus Paul Seden appeared in the Mackay Magistrates Court via video link with his head in his hands.

Magistrate Damien Dwyer read out 10 offences between October 18 and November 20 this year.

These include the dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm, leaving the scene without obtaining help and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He was also charged with evading police and breaking and entering.

He is alleged to have stolen car keys from several addresses and to have driven vehicles without the consent of the owners.

Mr Seden is also accused of stealing fuel from petrol stations in Paget and Andergrove.

No application for bail was made and Mr Seden was remanded in custody until a committal mention next year.

He will next face court February 15.
