A 1960s apartment block could be demolished to make way for seven bungalows under plans to redevelop part of Stockbridge Village.
Housing association ForHousing, part of the ForViva Group, has applied for permission to knock down Roughsedge House, in Spruce Grove, along with the neighbouring community centre and replace them with the bungalows.
The new houses would provide supported accommodation for older people, tying into the Jackson Gardens extra care facility next door that is due to be completed by the end of the year.
Roughsedge House is now largely empty, with only seven tenants still living there. All seven of the tenants have been offered accommodation in the new Jackson Gardens development.
Nigel Sedman, group director of homes from ForViva said: “Following consultation with tenants and their families around two years ago, the decision was made to decommission and redevelop the apartments at Roughsedge House as part of plans to bring modern and much needed new homes to the Stockbridge Village area.
“Those plans will see the brand new 90-home extra care facility at Jackson Gardens open next to the Roughsedge House site later this year.
“With the £12.4m Jackson Gardens scheme due to complete, ForHousing has now submitted plans to build seven modern bungalows to replace Roughsedge House. These homes will be for tenants over 55 years of age and complement those already in the local area.

“Seven tenants currently living at Roughsedge House will move to more appropriate accommodation at Jackson Gardens when it opens.
“ForHousing is committed to improving lives and creating new possibilities in Stockbridge Village. This year we completed work on the first new affordable homes to be built in the area for more than a decade with our 16 home Barley Mow development providing homes for local people.”
Knowsley Council expects to make a decision on the application by November 4, and the application is currently open for public comments on the council’s website.
