1917 is coming to Sky - here's all you need to know

Sam Mendes' critically-acclaimed 1917 is now available to watch on the Sky Store.

Sky customers can now download and watch the film that wowed audiences upon it's release late last year.

Gaining particular acclaim as a result of it's unique directorial style, the entire movie takes place with no cuts. Described as a 'visual masterpiece', long, sweeping long takes were seamlessly combined to look as if it all action takes place in one single shot.

In February's Oscars, 1917 was in the running for 10 awards including Best Picture. At the end of the night, they walked away with three: Best Sound Mixing, Best Visual Effects and, unsurprisingly, Best Cinematography.

1917 contains a star-studded cast including legends of the screen like Colin Firth, Mark Strong and even a very brief cameo appearance from Benedict Cumberbatch.

The main stars, however, are George McKay and Dean-Charles Chapman. Respectively, they play Lance Corporal Schofield and Lance Corporal Blake.

Together they are tasked with crossing into enemy territory to pass on an urgent message that could save the lives of up to 1,600 men.

The story of 1917 is inspired by a real life tale that was told to Sam Mendes by his Grandfather who left for England from the Caribbean Island of Trinidad in 1915 and joined the British Army, aged 19, a year later.
