GHAZIABAD: A 19-year-old man was arrested from the Hindon area on Saturday for allegedly strangling a four-month pregnant minor to death with a scarf last week.
The accused, Rahul Kumar Sarkar, told police he was in a relationship with the girl for the past few months but was “frustrated” as she was pressuring him to marry her after she became pregnant.
On April 14, the police recovered the girl’s body from Kanawani Pusta. “There were strangulation marks on the body. A case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code was registered after her father submitted a complaint,” said Manish Bisht, the SHO of Indirapuram police station.
During the investigation, it was found that the girl was four months pregnant and was in a relationship with Sarkar, who is originally from Bihar.
“We formed several teams to nab the youth, who was missing from his house in Kanawani. Finally, we followed a tip-off and the accused was nabbed from Hindon area on Saturday morning,” Bisht said.
Sarkar told his interrogators that he was in a relationship with the girl for the past 5-6 months. “He claimed that after the minor became pregnant, she was pressuring him for marriage. Frustrated with her continuous appeals, he decided to kill the girl. On the intervening night of April 13 and 14, he called the girl to Pusta Road and strangled her with a dupatta and fled,” the SHO said.
The accused was produced before a local court later on Saturday and remanded in judicial custody.
