19-year-old held for kidnapping teen in Gujarat

AHMEDABAD: Sola police on Friday arrested a 19-year-old man from Kalol for allegedly stalking, kidnapping and hurting a 16-year-old girl who lives in Kalol and studies in the Sola area of the city, on Thursday afternoon.

According to an FIR filed with Sola police, the girl studies at a private school in Sola and goes home to Kalol around 1pm every day.

On Thursday, she did not return till the evening and her parents began lookin gfor her. A classmate told her parents that a man had come to the school, made get get on to his motorcycle and taken her somewhere.

Meanwhile, the girl secretly sent her current location to her father on WhatsApp. The girl’s parents followed her location and reached a place near the Narmada canal where they spotted their daughter with the accused, Mayank Patel, who is from their village.

When her parents tried to approach him, he began driving to motorcycle away at speed and the girl fell and suffered injuries on her face.

Patel managed to flee and her parents took her to a private hospital near the Vaishnodevi Circle. The girl suffered an injury and a fracture to her chin, said an officer of Sola police.

The officer said that they later nabbed Patel from his house in Kalol and booked him for stalking, kidnapping a minor girl, rash driving causing severe hurt along with the charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and the Motor Vehicles Act.

The officer said that Patel had been stalking and harassing the girl for around six months.
