Police have charged a man over an alleged stabbing on the state's Central Coast at the weekend.
Emergency services were called to Alpha Road at Woy Woy on Sunday evening where paramedics treated a 27 year-old man for stab wounds. He was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition, police said in a statement.
Officers from Brisbane Water Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.
Police have been informed that the man became involved in an altercation with another man known to him. It will be alleged that the other man produced a weapon stabbing the 27-year-old man.
After being stabbed the man sought assistance from nearby residents, police said.
A short time later officers arrested a 19-year-old man after a foot pursuit along Forest Road, Umina Beach.
Police allege that during the foot pursuit the man was seen to throw an object on the roof of a house. Police later retrieved a plastic bottle containing diazepam tablets. Officers also allege that a search of the man located cocaine in his possession.
He was taken to Gosford Police Station and charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possessing a prohibited drug and possessing a prescribed restricted substance. He was refused bail and was expected to appear in Gosford Local Court on Monday.
Police inquiries are continuing.
