SURAT THANI: Security authorities on Thursday arrested 19 Chinese citizens illegally working at a construction site on Koh Samui.

Surat Thani immigration chief Wanchana Bowornboon said the Chinese entered the country with tourist visas to build a resort on the island. The project was believed to be undertaken by TCW Construction Co according to a sign board at the site.

The Chinese workers will be charged with illegally working in the country, blacklisted and deported, Pol Col Wanchana said.

Authorities also checked 24 Myanmar workers and all had work permits.
