19,000 more Covid cases detected in Liverpool City Region

There were 19,000 more Covid infections detected in the Liverpool City Region.

According to the latest data from Public Health England, Liverpool City Region recorded 41,051 positive covid tests in the seven days ending January 2 - that's 19,195 more positive tests than the previous seven days.

This meant Liverpool City Region's week-on-week percentage change figure was a rise of 88%.

The week-on-week percentage change figures surged in each of the six areas that make up the city region. The rises were: 91% in Knowsley; 73% in Liverpool; 90% in Halton; 92% in St Helens; 88% in Sefton; and, 106% in Wirral.

Cheshire West and Chester, West Lancashire, Warrington recorded increases in cases.

England recorded an increase in cases in the week ending January 2. England recorded 1,003,169 coronavirus cases, which is 284,107 more cases than in the previous seven days.

Liverpool

Liverpool's positive tests came to 11,990 cases in the week ending January 2, which is 5,045 more cases than in the previous week.

This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 73%.

The latest infection rate was 2,395.7 cases per 100,000 people.

Halton

There were 3,513 positive tests over the last week - 1,667 more cases than in the previous week.

This means the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 90% in Halton in the week ending January 2.

The latest infection rate is 2,707.3 cases per 100,000 people.

St Helens

There was a total of 5,102 cases in the week ending January 2, which is 2,446 more cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate in St Helens is 2,817.3 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 92%.

Knowsley

There was a total of 4,292 cases in the week ending January 2, which is 2,044 more cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Knowsley is 2,815.3 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 91%.

Wirral

There were 9,046 positive tests in the week ending January 2, which is 4,662 more cases than in the previous week.

Wirral 's week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 106%. The latest infection rate was 2,789.1 cases per 100,000 people.

Sefton

Sefton had a total of 7,108 cases in the week ending January 2, which is a 3,331 more cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 2,576.3 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases increased by 88% week on week.

Liverpool City Region

There were 41,051 positive tests over in the week ending January 2, which is 19,195 more cases than in the previous week.

This means the week-on-week percentage change increased by 88%. The latest infection rate is 2,410.87 cases per 100,000 people.

West Lancs

West Lancashire recorded 2,823 coronavirus cases in the week ending January 2, which is 1,159 more cases than in the previous seven days.

This meant there was a week-on-week percentage figure increased by 70%. The infection rate was 2,465.58 per 100,000 people.

Warrington

There were 5,030 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 2, which is 1,785 more cases than the previous week.

The week-on-week percentage figure increased by 55%. There was an infection rate of 2,402.13 per 100,000 people.

Cheshire West and Chester

There were 7,686 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 2, which is 3,001 more cases than the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 2,235.45 cases per 100,000 people, and there was a week-on-week percentage increase of 64% in cases.

England

In the week ending January 2, England recorded 1,003,169 coronavirus cases, which is 284,107 more cases than in the previous seven days.

There was a week-on-week percentage increase of 40% in cases nationally, and there was an infection rate of 1,773.95 per 100,000 people.
