NSW Police have issued a warning to drivers about their responsibilities on the road after an 18-year-old Canberra man was allegedly detected driving at 199km/h in a 110km/h zone on the Hume Highway on Saturday night.
Police stopped the man, who was driving a white Audi sedan, at Mittagong near the Drapers Road overpass about 11.40pm.
A roadside drug test allegedly returned a positive result for cocaine, officers said, though a secondary oral fluid test came back negative.
Further checks on his car and licence revealed the car's registration had expired and the 18-year-old only held an ACT provisional licence.
He was fined for speeding and his visiting driver privileges were immediately withdrawn.
The warning also came after a 67-year-old woman was killed when the Toyota Hilux she was a passenger in collided with a Mitsubishi Outlander being driven by a disqualified, 37-year-old female driver on the Central Coast.
It was the second fatality in the first two days of NSW Police's Operation Safe Return, which will run until 11.59pm on Monday.
