18-year-old Rhasidat Adeleke breaks Irish 200m record in Manhattan

Sprinting sensation Rhasidat Adeleke broke Phil Healy's Irish 200m record with a time of 22.96 in Manhattan on Saturday night.

The fast-improving 18-year-old also broke the Irish U20 and U23 100m records with an 11.31 run, second only behind Healy (11.28) on the all-time 100m list.

Adeleke was competing for the University of Texas at the Big 12 Championships, where she will line up in the 100m and 200m finals tonight.

The Dubliner's medal collection already holds a sprint double at the European Youth Olympics in Baku in 2019, while she was part of Ireland's 4x100m relay team that won silver at the 2018 World Under-20 championships in Finland.

Adeleke's superb form could potentially see her qualify for the Tokyo Olympics as the records continue to tumble.
