18-year-old girl suffers 'severe injury' after falling off wall onto the beach in Mumbles sparking frantic rising tide rescue

An 18-year-old girl suffered a "severe injury" after falling from a wall onto the beach in Mumbles.

RNLI crews responded to the incident at Knab Rock at around 8pm on Sunday, May 30 where the teenager suffered a suspected broken ankle during the fall.

She was helped off the beach by RNLI volunteers and the Mumbles coastguard team as the tide was "fast rising" and paramedics treated her at the scene.

A spokesman for Mumbles lifeboat RNLI said: "At 8.10pm this evening (Sunday, May 30) UK Coastguard at Milford Haven tasked the volunteer crew of the Mumbles lifeboat to attend a casualty at Knab Rock, Mumbles. The 18-year-old had suffered a severe injury following falling from the top of the rail enclosed wall to the beach below."

Lifeboat helm, Josh Double, explained that the bank holiday weekend had been "incredibly busy" for RNLI crews and urged those heading to the beach to be aware of the fast rising spring tides.

He said: "She had a suspected broken ankle and no means of getting safely off the beach due to the fast rising high spring tide. We deployed crew shoreside and took some of Mumbles Coastguard team to assist with extracting her from the beach. We managed to get her safely ashore and into the care of an ambulance paramedic.

"The bank holiday weekend has so far been incredibly busy for the RNLI. We urge everyone going near the coast to take care, particularly with the fast rising spring tides."
