Figures released by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HSPC) show that 18 children aged four and under have been hospitalised with Covid-19 over the last 14 days.
In total, 480 children between 0-4 have been diagnosed with the virus in this period, meaning 3.75% of these cases have resulted in the need for hospital treatment.
7,048 people have been diagnosed with Covid-19 across Ireland between March 3-16.
There have been a total of 422 hospitalisation among these cases, 13 of which were admitted to the ICU for critical care.
Over 51% of these cases were as a result of close contact with a known case of the virus according to the data, 20% are as a result of community transmission, while over 24% of these cases remain under investigation.
Just 1.7% of new cases during this period of two weeks were as a result of travel, 1.39% were patients who acquired the virus in a healthcare setting and .84% were staff working in a healthcare setting.
The highest number of hospitalisations between these dates were among those aged 75-84 the 85+ age group.
A total of 195 people aged 75-84 have tested positive for Covid, with 75 of them requiring professional care.
The highest number of cases in Ireland reported during the same timeframe were seen in the 25-34 age group.
1186 people in this bracket were diagnosed with the virus, 28 of whom are currently in hospital.
Health officials reported a total of 17 additional deaths on Wednesday, alongside 557 new cases of the virus.
As of 8am on Monday, 350 COVID-19 patients were hospitalised, of which 83 were in ICU.
The death toll currently sits at 4,566, and there have now been a total of 228,215 cases in Ireland since the beginning of the pandemic.
