18 of the world’s most decadent bedrooms

A glimpse inside someone’s bedroom can tell you a lot about that person: whether they are naturally tidy or messy, a minimalist or maximalist or what kind of knick-knacks are important to them.

It’s where people spend (at least) a third of their day and contains some of their most intimate moments, a place of romance and dreaming – but some bedrooms are more spectacular and whimsical than others.

This is a theme explored in Celia Forner’s new coffee table book, Bedtime: Inspirational Beds, Bedrooms and Boudoirs. Forner, a former model now an art collector and jewellery designer, encourages readers to be inspired by the decadent rooms featured.

“Celia Forner whisks you through the bedrooms of queens and emperors, designers and decorators, today’s most exclusive homes and even the& most evocative fictional boudoirs from stage and screen,” says a statement.

“Taking us from Marie Antoinette to the Maharaja of Indore; from Tony Duquette to Peter Marino and from Mae West to Peggy Guggenheim.”

In the gallery above, view a selection of the sumptuous boudoirs found in the book, from rooms that have been designed around the bed itself, to Elizabeth Taylor’s bedroom in the 1950s and Salvador Dali lounging in his double twin room.
