18 Movies With Harley Quinn And How To Watch Them

Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad (2016).

Lately, I find myself enjoying watching Harley Quinn movies as much as I enjoy watching the live-action Batman movies. Of course, that could be because a lot of the new DC movies that feature the Dark Knight, live-action or animated, tend to also include the Clown Princess of Crime, who has skyrocketed in popularity in the years since she debuted on the beloved animated TV shows, Batman: The Animated Series. See for yourself by taking a look at all of Harley Quinn’s feature-length adventures so far.

Joker: Folie À Deux (2024)

Director: Todd Phillips

Starring: Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga

What it’s about: A notorious failed comedian standing trial for murder falls into a whimsical romance with a fellow patient at Arkham State Hospital.

Why it’s a good option for Harley Quinn fans: While Joker: Folie á Deux was not very well received, some might argue it is worth checking out for Lady Gaga and the Oscar winner’s performance as an entirely different version of Harley “Lee” Quinzel.

The DCEU Suicide Squad Movies (2016-2021)

Director: David Ayer, James Gunn

Starring: Margot Robbie, Viola Davis

What it’s about: A mismatched group of incarcerated supervillains is given the chance to be heroes by completing tasks no one else would be willing to do.

Why it’s a good option for Harley Quinn fans: Much of Harley Quinn’s popularity these days can be credited to Oscar nominee Margot Robbie’s wonderful portrayal, which many cite as the best thing about 2016’s Suicide Squad and an absolute highlight of James Gunn’s more acclaimed “sequel.”

Birds Of Prey (2020)

Director: Cathy Yan

Starring: Margot Robbie, Ewan McGregor, Mary Elizabeth Winstead

What it’s about: Harley Quinn becomes an unlikely, but pivotal, member of an impromptu alliance of vengeful female vigilantes seeking to take down a sadistic Gotham City crime boss.

Why it’s a good option for Harley Quinn fans: Margot Robbie’s second appearance as the Clown Prince of Crime sees her sharing the screen with some of DC Comics’ most iconic female heroes in a dazzling crime thriller with the comically long title, Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.

Injustice (2021)

Director: Matt Peters

What it’s about: After The Joker successfully manipulates him into murdering the love of his life, Lois Lane, Superman suddenly becomes Public Enemy #1 among the Justice League.

Why it’s a good option for Harley Quinn fans: Based on the popular, Mortal Kombat-style video game of the same name, Injustice is one of the more violent animated DC movies and notably features Community cast member Gillian Jacobs as Harley Quinn.

Why it’s a good option for Harley Quinn fans: In one of the craziest Scooby-Doo crossovers, Scooby-Doo! and Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Tara Strong, who is also known for playing Batgirl, returns to the role of Harley Quinn.

Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay (2018)

Director: Sam Liu

Starring: Christian Slater, Tara Strong, Vanessa Williams

What it’s about: When Amanda Waller catches wind of a literal “get out of hell free card,” she enlists a group of convicted supervillains to retrieve it for her.

Why it’s a good option for Harley Quinn fans: In my opinion, one of the best movies about Task Force X yet is the R-rated Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay, especially for the inclusion of Tara Strong as Harley Quinn.

Director: Jay Oliva, Ethan Spaulding

Starring: Kevin Conroy, Hynden Walch

What it’s about: When it is learned that The Riddler has hidden some top-secret information in Arkham Asylum, a select group of specially gifted criminals are forced to infiltrate the facility.

Why it’s a good option for Harley Quinn fans: Hynden Walch, who voiced Harley Quinn on the animated series The Batman, reprises the role in Batman: Assault on Arkham, which is really a Task Force X movie disguised as an animated Batman movie.

The LEGO Batman Movie (2017)

Director: Chris McKay

Starring: Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Rosario Dawson, Zach Galifianakis

What it’s about: To stop The Joker and save Gotham, Bruce Wayne is forced to confront his ultimate adversary: himself.

Why it’s a good option for Harley Quinn fans: While The LEGO Batman Movie is a comedic take on the life of the Dark Knight, it gets just about everything about the character and his peers right, including its portrayal of Harley Quinn, voiced by underrated former SNL star Jenny Slate, and her toxic relationship with "Mister J."

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part (2019)

Director: Mike Mitchell

Starring: Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks

What it’s about: When the LEGO Universe is threatened by Diplo, Emmet Brickowski and his friends must partake in another dangerous mission to put everything back together again.

Why it’s a good option for Harley Quinn fans: Instead of bringing back Jenny Slate, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part briefly introduces a different version of Harley Quinn (voiced by Margot Rubin), who is clearly inspired by Margot Robbie’s iteration from Suicide Squad.

Director: Rick Morales

Starring: Adam West, Burt Ward, William Shatner

What it’s about: Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson must take action when it appears that reformed supervillain Harvey Dent’s darker half is starting take over.

Why it’s a good option for Harley Quinn fans: Harley Quinn does not exactly appear in Batman vs. Two-Face (which is noted for featuring Adam West’s final portrayal of Batman), but Dr. Harleen Quinzel (Sirena Irwin) is seen crossing paths with The Joker (Jeff Bergman).

Batman And Harley Quinn (2017)

Director: Sam Liu

What it’s about: Batman and Nightwing have no choice but to enlist the help of a criminal to prevent a world-threatening plot by Poison Ivy.

Batman: Hush (2019)

Director: Justin Copeland

Starring: Jason O’Mara, Jennifer Morrison

What it’s about: When a new criminal threat emerges in Gotham City, Bruce Wayne’s investigation leads him to make a life-changing discovery about his own past.

Why it’s a good option for Harley Quinn fans: As much as I would love to see this DC animated movie get a live-action update, a remake of Batman: Hush would be challenged to find a replacement for Harley Quinn as good as Hynden Walch, whose incarnation takes on Catwoman in this adaptation of Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee’s acclaimed 2002 comic.

Why it’s a good option for Harley Quinn fans: Hynden Walch is not exactly playing Harley Quinn, but an alternate version named “Yo-Yo,” who briefly appears in the fun Multiverse movie, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox.

What it’s about: Bruce Wayne finds himself trapped in feudal Japan alongside many of his allies and enemies, which ultimately leads to a heart-stopping conflict.

Why it’s a good option for Harley Quinn fans: Voicing one of the most unique screen iterations of Harley Quinn in the English-language dub for the underrated Batman movie, Batman Ninja, is a job that could only be done by Tara Strong.d

BONUS: Notable TV Shows With Harley Quinn

None of the Harley Quinn voice actors above would be where they are without the first actor to voice Harley Quinn in Batman: The Animated Series, the late Arleen Sorkin. Her influence is clear in every other vocal performance of the Clown Princess of Crime, including Kaley Cuoco, who leads Harley’s self-titled animated series (available exclusively with an HBO Max subscription).

Of course, there are other Batman TV shows that feature Harley. The first live-action iteration of the character appeared in the short-lived WB drama, Birds of Prey, featuring Ferris Bueller’s Day Off cast member Mia Sara in the role, and, more recently, Amazon Prime’s Batman: Caped Crusader, featuring Jamie Chung as a 1940s-era Dr. Harleen Quinzel. Fans of the Batman Ninja movies will also like Harley’s latest adventure with Task Force X in the Japanese anime series, Suicide Squad Isekai.

I am looking forward to seeing what upcoming superhero movies feature the Clown Princess of Crime next. Is there a chance we will see Harley Quinn in Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe, or might she next show up in the still unmade Gotham City Sirens movie? I’ll tell you one thing: I won’t allow myself to go crazy thinking about it and settle for enjoying the cinematic iterations of the character so far.
