A total of 174 Thai hikers have safely descended from Mount Rinjani National Park on Lombok island, Indonesia, where an earthquake struck on July 23, the Thai Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
Thai diplomats based in Jakarta have coordinated with Indonesian officials to pick up the 174 Thai mountaineers who had already come down from the national park. Food, medical supplies and hotel rooms were already prepared for them
Hundreds of tourists, including Thais, were stranded at Mount Rinjani National Park, a famous tourist destination in Lombok, after it was hit by a magnitude 6.4 earthquake on the morning of July 23. At least 14 people were killed and 40 others injured.
Most of the tourists were able to evacuate the area immediately, but hundreds of others were stranded by landslides triggered by a series of aftershocks after the quake.
There were no reports of Thai deaths.
