17-year-old girl shouted at by group of men to 'get in the car' as she walked to work after school

A 17-year-old girl walking from school to her part-time job in Swansea city centre was left "terrified" when a group of men shouted at her to "get in their car".

Aaliyah Evans was walking from Olchfa School, where she attends sixth form, towards a hair salon where she works in Park Street, Swansea on the afternoon of Thursday, March 25. She reached Mansel Street and walked past a parked car when she heard the voices of three men yelling towards her: "Get in the car."

She responded 'no', and they asked her 'why', and she replied, 'because I don't want to'. Despite her refusal, the men again yelled: 'Get in our car'. One man started to open the car door, and the teenager decided to run, and didn't stop until she got to the hairdressers.

Aaliyah worked her shift and her mum Lauren Evans came to collect her afterwards and take her home. Her mum explained how the ordeal had now left her daughter scared to walk alone again in the future.

Lauren said: "She walked past the car and there were two men in the front and one at the back. They told her: 'Get in our car', and she said 'no', and they asked her why not and she said because she didn't want to. One of them started to open the car door and she just ran and called me telling me what had happened. As soon as she told us my other half was half way through the door to get there.

"She was terrified and panicking. Especially given what you have heard recently with Sarah Everard. It is scary for any girls walking the streets. She was only trying to walk to work. I did offer her a lift but she said: "Don't worry, I will walk". After this, she has said she is never walking to work again."

The car has been described by Aaliyah as a "silver, oldish, scruffy car", but she did not manage to see its make or registration details. Her mum is currently in the process of reporting the matter to South Wales Police.

Lauren added: "I hope that by telling people what has happened it will help other people to be on their guard."
