A 17-year-old girl died after a rigid inflatable boat capsized in Cornwall, police have said.
Devon and Cornwall Police were called to reports the boat was upturned near Wadebridge at 2.25pm.
The air ambulance and Coastguard attended the scene and assisted with three casualties.
They were taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital, where the 17-year-old local girl was later pronounced dead.
The incident was one of three along the Cornish coastline on Monday, when the RNLI did not have lifeguards on beaches.
A spokeswoman for Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the girl’s next of kin had been informed of her death.
“Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident or captured the incident on camera to contact police on 101 quoting log 525 25/5/20,” she said.
In a separate incident at 2.30pm, a man died at Treyarnon Bay in Padstow after being pulled from the water by a member of the public.
At about the same time, surfers pulled an unconscious man from the water in Porthtowan, Truro.
He was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Cornwall Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
The police spokeswoman said he suffered “life-changing injuries”.
Last week, the RNLI and Coastguard warned there are currently no RNLI lifeguards on UK beaches.
Roll-out of the normal seasonal lifeguard service was paused at the end of March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Since changes to lockdown restrictions, the RNLI said it has been looking at plans to resume a service where possible.
It is hoped lifeguard patrols will be on 70 beaches, which will be chosen based on risk and popularity, by peak season.
