A 17-year-old cyclist is fighting for his life after a crash with a car in Hamilton.

Emergency services raced to Motherwell Road shortly before 11pm last night after the collision between a green Fiat 500 and the teenager who was riding a black mountain bike.

The youngster is currently in a critical condition at Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Police have launched an appeal for information following the crash.

A statement published by the Lanarkshire Police Division this afternoon says: "We're appealing for witnesses following a serious collision between a cyclist and a car in Hamilton.

"The incident happened around 10.40pm on Saturday, 26 September on Motherwell Road, near Palace Grounds Road. A green Fiat 500 was involved in a collision with a cyclist who was riding a black mountain bike.

"The car stopped and emergency services were called. The 17-year-old male cyclist is currently in a critical condition within the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow."

Sergeant Craig McDonald, of Road Policing, commented: "We're appealing to anyone who might've witnessed this incident or noticed the cyclist or green Fiat 500 shortly before the incident happened.

"I'd also ask drivers who were in that area around 10.40pm on Saturday to check their dashcam footage."

Anyone with any information should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 4491 of 26 September 2020.
