17-year-old boy critically hurt in Fernwood drive-by

A 17-year-old boy was critically wounded in a shooting Monday afternoon in Fernwood on the South Side.

About 3:15 p.m., the boy was walking down an alley in the 9900 block of South Parnell Avenue when someone in a vehicle drove by and began firing shots, Chicago police said.

He was struck multiple times throughout the body while the shooter fled the scene, according to police.

The boy was transported to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition.

Area Two detectives are investigating the shooting.
